Mattress Warranty

What’s with the mattress warranty?

Most mattresses we sell come with a 10 year manufacturers warranty, which is standard across the mattress industry. Valid claims on warranty are very rare and account for an extremely small percentage of sales. Broken or protruding springs are a rare occurrence under normal residential usage and most damage occurs when transporting or bending mattresses through narrow spaces.

Just as a clothing garment with loosen and fade with washes over a period of time, so will mattresses. They won’t shrink, but they may wear out or your comfort preference may change, and this doesn’t constitute a warranty defect.

Mattress Recyling

We do not throw mattress into landfill and instead choose to adopt mattress recycling companies such as Sleep Renovation to collect mattresses and disassemble them for recycling.

Creaks and Sounds

Some mattresses may make minor pressure adjustment sounds. Most customers often report this if they have wooden floor boards or in climates of great temperature variation. This is my no means a fault of the mattress and will not affect the structure of the mattress.

What’s that smell?

Most new mattresses will have a ‘new’ smell that will dissipate over time. This smell is non-toxic and is merely the smell of new materials.

Things to consider when purchasing a mattress

Your height and weight.

Type of support system such as innersprings, pocketsprings, latex or foam.

Type of comfort layers such as foam, latex, mini-pocket springs or gel.

The thermal qualities of the mattress.

Which mattress is right for me

A lot of stores will try to sell you a mattress based on your comfort level. This is true to an extent.

We recommend choosing the firmest mattress comfortable. This means actually trying out the mattresses at store level. A salesman can only sell you a price over the firm and not your ideal mattress.

2 GOLDEN RULES

For people who sleep mainly on their back, slide your hands beneath your lower back on the mattress, it should slide out just right. If it comes out too fast the mattress is too hard and if it is quite hard to get your hand out then the mattress is too soft.

If you sleep on your side, make sure that your shoulders sink into the mattress, to avoid your spine from curving too much when lying down.

When should I replace my mattress?

Generally we recommend that you replace your mattress every 7 years.

(Here’s what the sleep council says on this http://www.sleepcouncil.org.uk/the-seven-year-hitch/)

For cheaper mattresses we recommend replacing them at the end of the manufactuers warranty period.

A worn mattress can cause many health problems and adversely affect your posture and spine.

Mattress temperature

There is a whole new science to mattresses these days and as science progresses we are getting a whole new range of high tech materials. More premium mattresses containing latex, memory foam, gels or wool are becoming ever more popular, and depending on the design of the material and the density, they may have different thermal properties (some materials naturally retain heat better than others). Some materials relieve pressure points on the body and allow you to sink into the comfort layers better. As a result, more of the mattress is in contact with the body which may cause you to feel hotter. Sometimes mattresses with higher density comfort layers may also retain heat a lot more than lower density comfort layers. Therefore, depending on your comfort preference and final choice of bed it is important to know that your mattress may feel hotter or cooler than your previous mattress. Some people may choose to buy special temperature regulating mattress protectors or choose lighter bed covers.

Body impressions / Body signatures

about_1a

Many people notice body impressions through the lifetime of their mattress, especially those with thicker or softer mattresses or for new mattresses. It’s normal for new mattresses to show body signatures or impression as the top upholstery layers settle. In fact, the thicker the mattress, the more comfort layers it will have meaning the greater and more prominent the impressions may be.

These extra layers may consist of Dacron that will compress over time or be comfort foam layers such as those in a pillowtop. Compression of foam or dacron layers is a natural physical property of the materials and is a normal design of a mattress.

Mattresses are made of materials that will change in feel and softness over time. Just as a T-shirt stretches in the wash, or the springs on a car get softer over time, the springs on a mattress will feel softer than the day you bought it and the foam layers will compress with use.

The mattress will respond to the user, and some users of greater weight may find body impressions more evident than others.

Such changes are a normal physical property of these materials and are not due to faulty materials or workmanship.

To reduce the impressions and even the settling, it is recommended to rotate your mattress every 2 weeks for the first few months and then quarterly thereafter, trying to use all surfaces of the mattress instead of just sleeping in the same spot every night. If you have a king size mattress try to sleep in the center for a while otherwise the center of the mattress will feel firmer as it isn’t slept on and some people may get a raised area down the centre of the mattress.

Body signatures are not considered a manufacturing fault and are a normal part of daily use and wearing in the mattress.
